New Bedford North End Micro-Transit Study – Project Description

SRTA evaluated a transit on-demand solution to replace the underperforming Route 221 – North End Shuttle in the North End of New Bedford. The area to be examined follows the alignment of Route 221 and is entirely within the City of New Bedford and is generally bound by Tarkiln Hill Road to the south, Acushnet Ave to the east, and Church St to the west and the Freetown/New Bedford line to the north.

This project will:

• Identify goals and objectives for new transit on-demand services.
• Define the initial service areas and operating characteristics.
• Develop an implementation and evaluation plan that can be used to launch the initial service pilot
• Key deliverables include:
• Transit on-demand service design and evaluation framework
• Contracting strategy, development, and implementation schedule
• Identification of the highest potential future on-demand service areas
